Best Quotations from the Book
- “Since we too are made up of particles, we are all implicitly connected beyond space and time.”
- “To change is to think greater than how we feel. To change is to act greater than the familiar feelings of the memorized self.”
- “Once you change your internal state, you don’t need the external world to provide you with a reason to feel joy.”
- “A new state of being creates a new personality … a new personality produces a new personal reality. “
- When you think from your past memories, you can only create past experiences. “
- “If we want to change some aspect of our reality, we have to think, feel, and act in new ways; we have to “be” different in terms of our responses to experiences. We have to “become” someone else. “
- “When our behaviors match our intentions, when our actions are equal to our thoughts, when our minds and our bodies are working together, when our words and our deeds are aligned … there is an immense power behind any individual.”
- “Meditating is also a means for you to move beyond your analytical mind so that you can access your subconscious mind. That’s crucial, since the subconscious is where all your bad habits and behaviors that you want to change reside.”
Book Summary
1. To Change Your Life, Change Your Thoughts
- Everything is made of tiny particles that can be anything or nothing until we look at them.
- The universe has many possible realities, and we can choose the one we want by looking for it.
- Our thoughts and feelings can change the energy and matter around us. We can do this by changing what we focus on and what we expect to happen.
- Henry Ford said that “our beliefs determine our outcomes”. An example is a person who got a pay rise after he changed his focus from being unhappy to asking for more money.
- The pay rise was always possible, but he had to look for it and believe in it.
2. Live Your Desired New Future In the Present
- Our brain can’t tell the difference between what we imagine and what we see. Our thoughts can make our dreams come true.
- If we can picture our success in detail and act like we already have it, we will make it happen. For example, if we want to be rich, we have to think and act like a rich person. This may sound strange, but it works. We can compare it to dating, we have to be the kind of person our ideal partner would want. If we are not, we will miss them or not notice them.
- We have to be first, then we will receive. It’s all about changing our focus to see what we want. We can use questions to find our desired future.
- We have to live in the present, not the future. We have to feel the emotions of our success now, not later.
- We have to act and think like we are already living our dream. We have to deal with situations as if we are already successful.
3. Three Brains: From Thinking to Doing to Being
- We have three parts of our brain: one for thinking, one for feeling, and one for habits. We learn new things by thinking, doing, and being them. For example, if we want to be more kind, we have to think like kind people, act like kind people, and be kind people.
- Being is when we don’t have to think or try, we just do it naturally. Being is when we are stronger than anything outside of us. Nothing can make us angry if we want to be kind.
- Being is not hard to achieve. We can be anything we want, like joy or compassion.
- Some people have mastered being unhappy. They don’t want to change or try new things. We can master being happy or good enough. We just have to change our thoughts, feelings, and actions.
4. The Identity Gap
- We all have a gap between what we actually are and what we look like; because we hide our true selves from others. We try to change our outside world, but we need to change our inside world.
- Happiness is closing this gap and being ourselves. We can do this by forgetting our bad emotions, anger, fear or guilt. This can be done slowly by thinking, doing, and being, or quickly by meditating.
5. Breaking the Habit Of Being Yourself Through Meditation
- Meditation helps us go into our subconscious mind and change our bad habits and feelings. We can go from thinking to being without doing.
- Meditation helps us see ourselves better and let go of our emotions and worries. This helps us be who we want to be and feel how we want to feel.
Six Weeks Meditation Guide
- Week 1
Relax your body and mind. Focus on different parts of your body and the space around them. This will help you enter a state of calmness and awareness.
- Week 2
Identify the habits that you want to change. Admit and declare that you are ready to let go of them. Surrender to a higher power or intelligence that can help you change.
- Week 3
Observe the thoughts and feelings that are linked to your habits. Remind yourself that they are not who you are. Redirect your attention to what you want to create instead.
- Week 4
Imagine a new reality for yourself. Use your senses and emotions to make it feel real. Repeat this until it becomes familiar and natural to you.
- Week 5
Open your heart and feel gratitude for your new reality. Connect with the energy of love and abundance. Trust that your new reality is already happening.
- Week 6
Tune in to the frequency of your new reality. Align your thoughts, feelings, and actions with it. Become the person that you want to be.
6. Action Plan for Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself
- Pick 3 qualities that you want to have e.g. being kind, brave, and loving. Learn how to be like that by studying people who have those qualities.
- Show those 3 qualities. Whenever you can, ask yourself “What would a kind person do?” And do it. Do it many times until you are kind without thinking. Do it for all 3 qualities.
- Forget your worst 3 qualities. Pick 3 qualities that you don’t like about yourself; things like I’m not good enough. To forget it, do things no matter how small to show that you are good enough; and when you do, write them down so you can remember it. When you have many examples where you showed yourself that you are good enough, slowly your old thought will go away.
